This is an Entry Level position. Working within the Merck Manufacturing Divisions Information Technology (MMD-IT) group, the Associate Automation Engineer will provide support for various manufacturing automation systems controlling a wide range of process, including : Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient, Vaccine, Sterile Pharmaceutical, Fermentation, and Solid Dosage Operations.
The Associate Automation Engineer responsibilities include but are not limited too:
Trouble-shooting challenging equipment / automation issues to improve manufacturing performance (e.g. yield improvements, etc.) and maintaining the automation systems in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
Generate and maintain all System Life Cycle documentation.
Lead automation related investigations into Atypical Production Reports and implement the corrective actions.
Working as a automation representative on a startup or existing production team.
For various project assignments / initiatives, the automation team member will work closely with site / central groups (e.g. Vaccine and Sterile Process Technology, Global Pharmaceutical Technical Operations, etc.) to ensure manufacturing requirements are met.
The automation team supports a large spectrum of sophisticated automated systems giving the team members the opportunity to learn new automation technologies and make a positive impact.
Providing automation support during off-shift hours as needed, flexibility to work 1 st 2 nd or 3 rd shift hours may be needed.
Education:
Must have earned a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Science, Engineering, or related field by December 31st, 2009 or June 30th, 2010.
Preferred:
A working knowledge of the regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical applications is desirable.
Highly desired are skills in PLCs (AB), DCSs (DeltaV / Provox), Batch Operations (S88/S95), IT, and OEM equipment.
