The Screening, Target & Compound Profiling Department is seeking interns interested in participating in Biophysics, BioNMR, Mass Spectrometry, High-Throughput Experimentation, Cell Science or Screening & Informatics studies, either as part of an independent research project or a drug discovery team. The intern will learn how to apply a suite of complementary, modern capabilities to problem solve in support of the Merck small and large molecule pipeline. The successful applicant to this position will have the opportunity to work in Merck's state of the art Biophysics laboratory and learn about pre steady-state and fast enzyme kinetics, while performing quench-flow and stop-flow experiments. Potential involvement in a scientific publication may occur as a result of this research.

We are seeking internship candidates with excellent academic performance, communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to work in a multi-functional environment. A strong science background in enzyme kinetics, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular/cellular pharmacology, chemical biology, engineering, analytical chemistry, computer science or cheminformatics is essential. This is a paid internship targeted to start in June 2019 for 10-12 weeks, whereby a stipend will be provided.

This is a full- time internship position. Housing subsidy is not available as part of this program and must be funded 100% by the student.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Required: Candidates must have completed at least (2) years of studies toward bachelor's degree by June 2019.


Required Experience and Skills:

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, biophysics, molecular/cellular pharmacology, chemical biology, engineering, analytical chemistry, computer science or cheminformatics.
  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in an academic program at the time of the application.
  • Candidates must be available to work full-time for up to (12) consecutive weeks beginning in May or June 2019.


Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Candidates should have basic laboratory skills and research experience, including electronic notebooks, handling of mammalian cells, purified proteins and/or instrumentation.
  • Candidates should have significant interest in enzyme kinetics and drug discovery.
  • Candidates should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
