Intercept's lead product, obeticholic acid (OCA), is a first-in-class farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonist marketed under the brand name \"Ocaliva ® \" in the U.S., EU and Canada for the treatment of patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), a rare autoimmune liver disease. Ocaliva ® was the first medication to be approved for PBC in over twenty years, and sales continue to grow more than five years after its initial approval in 2016.

Intercept has also established the leading clinical development program in advanced fibrosis due to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a disease that impacts the lives of millions of people in the U.S. alone. Currently, there are no available treatments for NASH, and the REGENERATE study of OCA remains the only Phase 3 trial to have generated positive results in the disease. A second Phase 3 trial, REVERSE, is evaluating OCA in patients with compensated cirrhosis due to NASH, with results expected in 2022.

As Intercept continues to build its position as the leader in progressive non-viral liver disease, we are seeking and Associate Director, U.S. HCP Marketing. The Associate Director, U.S. HCP Marketing, will be responsible for supporting the strategic development and tactical execution of the OCALIVA® Speakers Bureau and the KOL Engagement Strategy as well as supporting HCP overall marketing strategies / tactics including brand planning. Tactical execution will include development of speaker bureau presentation decks, marketing collateral and training materials. Responsibilities will include management of medical marketing agency on selected tactics and representation of tactics through LMRC review process as well as effective roll-out of selected tactics through sales training and field sales stakeholders.

The position requires a highly motivated individual who can work independently, think strategically, and collaborate cross-functionally to accomplish complex deliverables on tight timelines and to perform all responsibilities in accordance with company policies, procedures and training.

The incumbent will work closely with multiple functional groups across the organization, including but not limited to Field Sales, Field Medical, Market Research, Medical Affairs, Sales Training, Regulatory and Legal.

The role will be based in our Morristown, NJ Headquarters with flexibility for remote work 2-3 days per week.


The successful candidate must be able to perform each of the following satisfactorily:

  • Lead our US and Thought Leader efforts including KOL identification, mapping and engagement plan
  • Responsible for Peer-to-Peer promotional speaker program strategy, content, and execution including support execution of speaker programs as needed
  • Support brand planning and the development of HCP marketing strategies and tactics
  • Plan and help facilitate various advisory boards and other engagement activities to inform both commercial strategy and content development
  • Perform responsibilities with a commitment to Compliance and a high ethical standard
  • Understand the legal and compliance environment and drive collaboration with the Legal and Compliance team
  • Drive the spirit of \"ONE Team\" across all functions by supporting a team approach to focus on our patients and customers as our top priorities

Experience and Skills


  • BA/BS required
  • Minimum 7 years biopharmaceutical experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with marketing drugs in U.S. is required
  • Experience developing messaging and brand planning preferred
  • Experience working closely with Key Opinion Leaders preferred
  • Prior product/indication launch, and pre-approval experience preferred
  • Prior experience in rare disease, GI or specialty disease states preferred


  • Experience in delivering complex messages to various internal and external customers
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, prioritize and manage multiple projects, and effectively influence, collaborate, and communicate with internal and external partners
  • Experience working with external brand agencies and vendors on a day-to-day basis
  • Experience with process management including, but not limited to budget and LMRC review process
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • An outstanding track record of strong communication, presentation, analytic and strategic capabilities
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
