Associate Medical Director


The Associate Medical Director develops exceptionally high-quality medical and scientific content, specifically publications, and has overall responsibility as the internal agency expert for all product/compound data, medical/scientific literature, and scientific aspects of deliverables for assigned accounts. The Associate Medical Director is an experienced writer and client-facing team member who can develop relationships both internally and externally. In addition, the person in this role should demonstrate strategic thinking, and/or the desire to grow this skillset. This Associate Medical Director will have oversight of Biomedical Writers, and will report directly to the Medical Director.


  • Comprehensive understanding of the publication process, including GPP3, ICMJE recommendations, and the development and documentation of compliant material
  • Keen ability to write and edit content, including narratives for publications (abstracts/posters/manuscripts), slide presentations, monographs, and symposia material for clinician audiences
  • Utilize company's research methodologies to identify gaps in clinician knowledge and practice, and facilitate development of appropriate educational material
  • Ensure scientific appropriateness of presentation materials
  • Develop and oversee the execution of medical communications projects across multiple therapeutic areas
  • Demonstrate strategic, critical, and creative thinking with a meticulous attention to detail
  • Track and maintain timelines for medical communications projects to ensure on-time completion
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with cross-functional internal teams (account, creative, scientific) to drive deliverables
  • Regularly presents to clients and potential clients
  • Develop content for and participate in new business initiatives

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years of relevant healthcare communications experience, preferably in publications
  • Advanced degree in life science is required (eg, PhD, MD)
  • Superb writing and presentation skills, attention to detail, and able to think creatively and strategically
  • Ability to rapidly get up to speed on diverse therapeutic categories and clearly communicate information in a concise, audience-appropriate manner
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Can effectively manage time, multi-task, and handle a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment
  • Passionate about communicating science to a variety of audiences
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (eg, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and EndNote
