The Clinical Research/Attending Veterinarian is responsible for providing veterinary oversight to the care and use of laboratory animals (livestock and companion research animals are included) at Merck Animal Health. He/She is responsible for ensuring that humane, legal, ethical, efficient, and scientifically sound research is conducted. Responsibilities also include training and oversight of the animal care staff, representation on the internal animal care and use committee (IACUC), and facilitating communication between the Animal Services/Research Facility and the Research and Development department.
Education Minimum Requirement:
- Doctor in Veterinary Medicine, US licensure
Required Experience and Skills:
- Individual must be a DVM specializing in livestock medicine with a current US license and presently holding or able to achieve full veterinary licensure within the state of Kansas.
- Good interpersonal, communication (both written and oral) and organizational skills are essential.
Must be able to lead and work in a team environment.
- Individual must be physically capable of handling, examining and treating laboratory animals of all species.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Knowledge in lab animal medicine
- Advanced graduate degrees in disease research
- Knowledge of swine, bovine, equine and canine species
- Knowledge of governmental regulations, including USDA licensure and Animal Welfare Act
