Job Description

The position

Reporting to the Global Medical Director of NASH Medical Affairs in Foster City we are looking for anSenior Director/Director of NASH Medical Affairs - ASIA-PAC, preferably based in Hong Kong.

Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee all NASH Medical Affairs headquarters activities in the Asia HQ, Hong Kong.
    • Plan and allocate headquarters Medical Affairs resources
    • Recruit, manage and develop staff for ASIA-PAC Medical Affairs
    • NASH Education, training and support for the ASIA-PAC medical affairs teams in Japan, China and Asia-5 countries (South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia)
  • Set strategic medical affairs goals and objectives to achieve operational excellence for ASIA-PAC Medical Affairs and the individuals in the department
  • Provide strategic leadership to Global and ASIA-PAC Medical Plans, with inputs from Country Medical Directors and ASIA-PAC Senior Medical Directors, and support the implementation of Global, regional and national medical plans
  • Ensure effective cross-functional collaborations with internal and external customers, including the Foster City Medical Affairs team, Marketing, Sales, Market Access, Clinical Research, Public Affairs, Government Affairs, Biometrics, Contracts/Finance, Pharmacology, Legal, Medical Directors and Medical Scientists in affiliate offices
  • Maintain a high level of scientific presence in the NASH medical community, through:
    • leadership at major international and national meetings, congresses and symposia
    • regional and national advisory boards (MAAPs)
    • regular communication and compliant responses with key opinion leaders, investigators, and research organizations/consortia
  • Evaluate and effectively communicate Gilead NASH clinical data to support the NASH portfolio:
    • Create content materials for use by Medical Scientist team and Medical Information team
    • Training of Gilead field teams, including medical scientists and therapeutic specialists and other internal stakeholders
    • Work closely with L&D and events planning to organize regular training programs in the ASIA-PAC region
    • Provide medical and scientific oversight to publications, scientific presentations
    • Develop and execute collaborative medical education and speaker training
  • Support NASH data generation activities through:
    • Strategize and develop Ph 3b and 4 clinical trials to address unmet medical needs in ASIA-PAC region
    • Critical review of global ISR, Ph3 and Ph4 study proposals as a member of the MAST committee
    • Serve as medical monitor to Gilead sponsored Phase 4 trials as needed
    • Review abstracts and/or manuscripts that result from ISR grants
    • Communicate Gilead's commitment to scientific excellence in liver diseases through research and education
  • Oversee the medical and scientific review of promotional materials for NASH treatments, and serve as an official signatory

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • The ideal candidate will be an MD/PhD or PharmD, with clinical practice and pharmaceutical experience in liver diseases and/or infectious diseases.
  • Editing, evaluating and approving claims/materials through the copy approval system as final signatory. Final signatory for internal and external documents and materials
  • Significant experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with prior supervisory/leadership experience
  • Demonstrate organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills along with excellent judgment and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Travel to domestic and international conferences, including weekends
  • Knowledge of regulatory affairs and drug safety
  • Knowledge of local pharmaceutical industry, business conduct and legal/health system environment
