Position Description:

Director, Global Clinical Development (GCD) Reporting and Analytics within our Research & Development Division. Finance acts as the lead Finance support for the Late Stage Global Clinical Development portfolio providing analytics, reporting and consolidation of actuals and forecasts.  The Director also supports Early Development Ph1 studies, IPR&D analysis and reporting, and valuation (NPVs) in support of our assets. 

The Director is responsible for managing a team of financial professionals, supporting Global Clinical Development Late-Stage Consolidation and Reporting , clinical cost forecasting and analytics,  conducting monthly close activities and ensuring compliance for clinical out of pocket (OOP) grant spending. The incumbent is also responsible for developing, coaching and managing team members to meet both business and individual goals. In addition the incumbent is responsible for the our Research & Development Division Financial Evaluation & Analysis (FE&A) group, performing all valuations that go to governance (HHPAC and LDRC) to support stage gate reviews and Integrated Business Cases as well as adhoc financial analysis as needed.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the Consolidation, Analytics, Reporting and Systems (CARS) group that provides GCD Executive Director monthly actuals and forecasting for Late Stage Development.

  • Develop informative slides summarizing actuals and forecasts

  • Refine judgment assumptions on clinical spend based on experience

  • Roll forward and reconcile funding available for projected studies

  • Assess need for spending placeholders for preclinical compounds, gaps in the Book of Business (BoB) and recently executed Business Development and Licensing (BD&L)

  • Collaborate with our Research & Development Division Project Management, our Research & Development Division Finance colleagues and other our Research & Development Division areas on the forecast timing of activities, the BoB and changes to cross functional processes and systems

  • Manage organization consisting of 3 Associate Directors and 2  Senior Specialists  providing guidance and feedback in support of business and personal development goals in line with the Finance Talent Strategy.

  • Leadership of financial reporting, planning and analysis processes for the early stage studies  out-of-pocket investments in supporting of the budgeting, forecasting, closing, and 5 Year Plan cycles.

  • Utilize various systems to create and update these forecasts and report life of study (LOS) spending and variance commentary.

  • Support late stage governance committee (LDRC) with responsibility of study costing tools.

  • Provide strategic and financial insight on key business decisions, new initiatives and business development opportunities for the Therapeutic Area including business case and valuation analyses in preparation for governance reviews and Senior Leadership decision making.

  • Work in partnership with Human Health(HH)/our Manufacturing Division Finance groups to provide relevant financial information to Late Development Review Committee (LDRC) and Human Health Product Approval Committee (HHPAC).

  • Recommend allocation of clinical investments, leveraging financial analytics and business acumen.

  • Oversight of financial support and analysis for internal and external audits as it relates to clinical out of pocket (OOP) grants spending and IPR&D testing. Ensure Sarbanes Oxley controls compliance is maintained throughout the grants forecasting and track process utilizing GMS and SAP systems.

  • Head of our Research & Development Division FE&A group, performing Research and Development asset valuation to support project investment decisions and IPR&D testing.

  • Lead quarterly impairment testing for all acquired assets in development with communication and alignment with Lead Clinicians, Project Management, HH and Accounting Standards.

Position Qualifications:

  • Minimum B.A./B.S. , preferably in Business, Finance/Accounting or Science

  • M.B.A. and/or C.P.A. strongly desired

  • 10 years in accounting or finance with strong knowledge of finance systems, planning and reporting.

  • Strong managerial/leadership skills (vertical and horizontal leadership)

  • Has proven ability to identify organizational efficiency opportunities and drive change in the organization.

  • Ability to provide strategic direction for business operations models Results and process-driven orientation.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and effectively manage and motivate a team in a challenging and complex environment.

  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills and ability to influence, ability to build internal and external relationships, proven negotiation skills.

  • Sound and balance judgment; able to assess and handle risks, decisive

  • Demonstrated people management ability.

Preferred:

  • BPC 10 System knowledge

  • General understanding of our Research & Development Division operations, planning and forecasting processes.

  • Understanding of pharmaceutical industry, desirable to have exposure to clinical study support and analytics.
