Job Description:
Assist with the development, operation and maintenance of wildlife management areas by complying with state noxious weed and boundary fence laws; managing vegetation for resources and recreation with emphasis on prescribed burning, haying and mechanical tree removal; negotiating conservation, haying and grazing leases; developing and maintaining access roads, parking lots and trails to facilitate public access; assessing wildlife population status and efficacy of habitat management. Assist with budget planning. Develop reports and maintain records necessary for compliance with federal aid guidelines, farm program requirements, and other external standards and requirements. Provide technical assistance; give presentations to individuals and entities regarding wildlife habitat, hunting, fishing, trapping, regulations, biology and viewing opportunities. Respond to wildlife depredation, disease control, animal nuisance complaints, and wildfires. Conduct wildlife and public use surveys. Assist with NGPC integration planning/activities. Perform related work as required.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, fish or wildlife management or closely related field of biological science. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of wildlife habitat management principles, goals and objectives; wildlife species; life history and habitat needs; budgeting processes and record keeping systems; and conservation statutes and regulations as they relate to wildlife. Ability to communicate effectively; set goals and objectives; perform heavy physical labor and work outdoors for long periods of time; operate and maintain hand and power tools including chain saws, tractors and trucks; develop and maintain professional relations with a broad range of agencies and publics. Knowledge and ability to use ARC GIS preferred.
