Medical Lab Scientist

Job Description

As a key member of the laboratory team, the Medical Laboratory Scientist performs a wide range of waived, moderately complex, and highly complex testing procedures in accordance with established protocols and regulatory standards. This role requires strong technical expertise, independent judgment, and a commitment to delivering accurate, timely results with minimal supervision and will work within a generalist scope working in a variety of departments.

Responsibilities include operating, maintaining, validating, and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation and equipment; performing quality control, proficiency testing, and quality assurance activities; and recognizing and responding to factors that may affect test accuracy and reliability. The Medical Laboratory Scientist identifies abnormal or unexpected results, supports the implementation of new testing methodologies, and may participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives.

This position serves patients across all age groups and is dedicated to providing exceptional customer service while promoting patient safety and a culture of quality. The successful candidate demonstrates professionalism, collaboration, and adherence to organizational service standards when interacting with patients, families, and colleagues.

Schedule Details:

  • Full-time | 72 hours every two weeks
  • Day and evening rotation position
    • Start and end times fluctuate between 5:30am-7:00am start and 2:00-2:30pm end
  • On-site position at St. Cloud Hospital

Pay and Benefits:

  • Starting pay $33.15 per hour, exact wage determined by years of related experience
    • Salary range: $33.15-49.73

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with necessary science/math credits as required and verified by the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) required
    • New Graduate's degree must be validated within 2 months post-graduation
  • ASCP-BOC certified within 6-months, with first exam completed within 3-months of hire. Certification must be verified within 6 weeks of exam
  • At least 2 years recent experience in a large acute care facility preferred
  • Must posses good computer knowledge and input skills
  • Transportation available for off campus laboratory related activities may be required
  • A valid driver's license, a driving record in good standing, and the minimum amount of insurance liability coverage may be required
