Our Research Scientists are our Inventors. We identify and target steps in disease mechanisms or pathways that could be inhibited or enhanced. Using innovative thinking, state-of-the-art facilities and robust scientific methodology, we collaborate to discover the next medical breakthrough.
At our Company, the Biologics Upstream Process Development (BUPD) department within the Biologics Process Research & Development (BPR&D) organization is responsible for developing microbial and mammalian cell lines, media, and production processes, for early and late-stage biologics programs. BUPD group collaborates with internal and external organizations to rapidly develop cell lines and processes for novel and diverse biotherapeutics. In addition, we work very closely with our internal manufacturing site for the transfer and implementation of these processes for clinical supply production. For late-stage programs, we partner with our Manufacturing Division to support the commercialization of new biologics products. Our department is seeking a highly motivated scientist to support the technology innovation and process development using mammalian and microbial expression systems, leading to the transfer of high-yield, robust, and scalable production processes for biologics manufacturing.
As a Senior Scientist, the successful candidate will apply sound scientific understanding and engineering principles to develop, optimize, scale-up, and transfer production processes. He/She will independently conceptualize and execute microbial and/or cell culture studies leading to innovation and implementation in our pipeline. The candidate will be responsible for improving process automation and control to streamline our processes and operations. He/She will work in a very collaborative and matrix environment to innovate and establish new technologies and production platforms. The individual is expected to demonstrate strong communication skills in writing, presenting, and publishing the results, observations, and conclusions from scientific studies. In addition to the core responsibilities outlined above, the candidate is expected to follow good documentation practices, comply with all required training, and maintain focused attention on their own and team’s laboratory safety.
Education Minimum Requirement:
Ph.D. in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering with some recent years of academic or industrial experience with microbial/yeast fermentation and/or cell culture processes.
Required Experience and Skills:
Technical background and hands-on experience with different expression systems, microbial/yeast fermentation, cell culture techniques, and general laboratory practices, to produce recombinant proteins
Mechanistic and empirical modeling of production systems based on fundamental principles of metabolism and bioreactor design leveraging metabolic flux analysis, cellular kinetics, and omics tools for model building
Understanding of statistical methods (design of experiment, multivariate data analysis) and tools (SIMCA, JMP, Matlab)
Understanding and experience with computer programming packages (R, Python) to improve process automation
Understanding and implementation experience with control systems, in the context of microbial and/or mammalian production process
Ability to comprehend and execute experiments independently, and to fulfill the project objectives by meeting quality and timeline expectations
Ability to conceptualize, execute, analyze, present, and publish original hypothesis and applications in microbial or cell culture processes and technologies
Demonstrated ability to manage, analyze, and present complex datasets
Strong organizational, interpersonal, writing, and time management skills
Ability to work effectively in a functional and cross-functional collaborative environment, and to objectively drive results for the team
Collaborate and maintain a relationship with internal and external partners including vendors
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Scientific understanding of cell biology, metabolism, and engineering principles for recombinant protein production using microbial and mammalian hosts.
Experience with applying cell and/or process engineering approaches for scientific investigation, troubleshooting, process improvement, and product quality control.
Expertise in bioanalytical techniques to characterize microbial or cell culture processes
Proven track records of scientific publication and communication with excellent oral and written skills
Understanding and experience of process automation programing and bioreactor operation including ambr15, ambr250, and 3L bioreactors is highly preferred
