The Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics and Drug Metabolism (PPDM) department of MRL at South San Francisco is seeking a dynamic, strategic-thinking, and collaborative scientist for the Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Excretion (ADME) group. The Senior Scientist will initially be lab-facing, but scientist will be developed to be increasing independent and discovery team-facing for small molecule, antibody-drug conjugate, peptide, and/or biologic therapeutics. The candidate will need to regularly engage with experimentalists and instrumental analysts in PPDM and in other functions.

The responsibilities of the Senior Scientist will be to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment to design and interpret experiments, to be proficient in the upkeep of instruments, and to be training other technical staff in both instrumental and data analysis. Experiments will characterize and build an understanding of key structure-activity relationships (SAR) related to ADME properties. Excellent scientific, interpersonal, and communication skills are required. The candidate will be expected to effectively present their work at departmental meetings as well as promote Merck science through publications and presentations/lectures.

Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:

PhD, MS, or BS degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Immunology, Pharmacology, Engineering, or related science.

Required Experience and Skills**:

PhD (0-3 year), MS (+4 years), BS (+7 years) of combined industry and/or postdoctoral (or fellowship) experience focused on providing ADME support for optimization of small molecule, antibody-drug conjugate, peptide, and/or biologic therapeutics.

Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, problem solving, and collaboration skills along with strengths in delivering results in fast-pace environment.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

Develop ADME assays tailored to the chosen therapeutic and in the relevant disease setting.

Have been exposed to and have some understanding of therapeutic exposure-effect relationships and physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) software modeling.
