Senior Scientist, Vaccines

We are seeking a Senior Scientist to join our Vaccine Analytical Research and Development Separations team located in West Point, PA. The Senior Scientist is a laboratory-based scientific role tasked with solving complex analytical problems at the interface of chemistry, biology, and lab informatics disciplines to characterize vaccines in support of vaccine development. 

The successful candidate must function well and be able to collaborate in a fast-paced, integrated, multidisciplinary team environment. Research experience should demonstrate successful application of state-of-the-art analytical techniques, such as separations (HPLC, CE and centrifugation), spectroscopic techniques (NMR, UV-VIS / IR / Fluorescence / Raman), binding characterization (SPR & ITC), virology, and classical wet chemistry techniques.  Additional experience in separation science and protein sciences with application to large biomolecules such as viruses, virus like particles, nanoparticles, proteins, DNA/RNA, and lab automation / informatics is considered a plus.

The responsibilities of this role will be to lead assay development and engage with product teams to characterize vaccines in support of process development, formulation development, vaccine investigations, method qualifications and transfers. 

Applicants must have effective organizational, multi-tasking, oral / written communications skills, show scientific leadership, and a desire to conduct research and publish. In addition, experience leading small groups of technical personnel and analytical projects will aid in distinguishing candidates.  Additional responsibilities include evaluating new technologies, drive innovations, and preparing technical documents to support regulatory submissions. 

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Ph.D. within analytical chemistry, chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a closely-related field OR M.S. with a minimum of 5 years of experience OR B.S. with a minimum of 7 years experience with relevant industry experience.   

Required Experience and Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of chemistry and separations (HPLC, CE, LC-MS) demonstrated by publications

  • Experience with protein structure and biochemical characterization

  • Proven track record of publications with strong verbal & written communication skills.  

  • Capable of multi-tasking and managing multiple projects.

  • Motivated to learn new skills, willingness to take on new challenges, and scientific curiosity.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience with viral proteins and structure with knowledge in virology.

  • Experience with analysis of biological molecules.
