3rd Shift SPO Environmental Monitoring Technician

Under the direction of departmental supervision, performs routine and special environmental testing according to established procedures. Collects samples using aseptic technique, maintains records of specified duties as required by standard operating procedures and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.

Routine job duties include:

  • Collects and processes samples for laboratory analysis using aseptic technique.
  • Performs critical site testing, routine surface testing, clean steam sampling, personnel monitoring, and other required environmental sampling as specified in departmental SOP's in controlled/classified conditions.
  • Carefully records test results, entering all data into electronic laboratory information management system (LIMS) as applicable according to departmental procedures.
  • Assists in training new technicians as required by demonstrating work procedures and familiarizing new employees with various testing areas around test sites.
  • Is knowledgeable of, and follows all, applicable cGMP and Safety guidelines in the performance of all duties.
  • Maintains good laboratory and housekeeping practices.
  • Prepares testing equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Reports all defective equipment to supervision. Participates in the preventative maintenance of testing equipment.
  • Receives assignments from Dept. Supervision or coordinates own work schedule with minimal supervision.
  • Assist with problem resolution of test samples
  • Is knowledgeable of all testing methods and sites as assigned.
  • Assists with submission of microbial samples for ID.
  • Supports per process/fill testing as required. Performs testing and/or check-ins of production plates into lab as required.
  • Prepares Micro, Chem, LA and other sample bottles according to daily water collection schedules. Collects water samples aseptically for testing.
  • Performs various miscellaneous duties, such as changing recorder charts, cleaning incubators, cold vaults, and storage areas.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Assists in performing paraformaldehyde decons of assigned area following departmental procedures.
  • Assists using the certification of HEPA filtered equipment by performing any necessary mechanically-oriented procedures as directed to accomplish the certification.



Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

1. High School diploma or equivalent

2. A minimum of 60 credits from an accredited college/university with the following course work:

  • A minimum of 4 credits in Biological Sciences with lab
  • A minimum of 4 credits in Microbiology or Bacteriology with lab.
  • A minimum of 4 credits in General Chemistry with lab.
  • A minimum of 3 credits in Mathematics

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in an Aseptic environment



Special Skills or Abilities:

  • Expected to lift and move various items, not to exceed 45 lbs.
  • Must have good working knowledge of sterile techniques
  • Exposure to potentially infectious agents and potentially toxic chemicals.
