NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in fisheries biology OR MA/MS Degree in Fisheries biology with minimum additional experience of 20 year(s) in Fisheries Management

• Professional knowledge and experience in the biological resources that inhabit Indian Creek and Elwha River and as well as knowledge and/or experience related to previous studies and data that have been conducted in Indian Creek and/or Elwha River.
• Experience required with Windows, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS SharePoint

Duties:

Enrollee will serve as a biologist, supporting Olympic National Park, with expertise in natural resources management and specifically, fisheries biology. Provides biological life history and ecological data on impacted resources, especially local fish species, and related ecosystems. Works as part of a team to assess injuries to biological resources from the PetroCard tanker spill and assist the team in determining natural resource damages from the incident. Also serves as a subject matter expert on Olympic National Park, including its boundary and rules and regulations.

• Participate in in-person and virtual meetings with park Natural Resource staff, NPS damage assessment case officer, and other partner agencies in the project. Visit the incident site as needed. Participate in injury assessment and restoration scaling activities related to the PetroCard incident site. 50%
• Research specific sites and/or resources to develop narratives that justify the significance of the resources; identify which resources have been injured by the oil spill. Provide biological life history and ecological data on impacted resources and related ecosystems for the impacted area. 50%

• Required Safety Gear: Field work may require PPE to be provided by the park
• Physical requirements: Job is primarily sedentary and performed in an office environment. Field conditions may be hot, cold, or wet. Tasks may require the enrollee to stand, bend, stoop or kneel for extended periods of time.
