BIOLOGIST ADMINISTRATOR OFFICE OF WILDLIFE

The Biologist Administrator exercises broad stewardship responsibilities over species management, minerals management and regulatory programs of the department and 62 employees. Incumbent serves as advisor to the Department Secretary, Undersecretary and Assistant Secretary of the Office of Wildlife regarding projects and programs to manage and conserve wildlife resources of the state. The Division's responsibility derives from constitutional, statutory or administrative law, primarily Title 56 Incumbent may serve in the place of the Office of Wildlife Assistant Secretary during his absence and represent the Department in various venues. Overnight travel throughout the state and nation is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Six years of the required experience for the following minimum qualification must have been at the DCL level, supervisory level or above:

A bachelor's degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus ten years of experience in wildlife or fisheries, forestry, or environmental science; OR

A non-thesis master's degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus nine years of the required specialized experience; OR

A master's degree with a completed thesis or a doctorate in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus eight years of the required specialized experience.

Job Duties and Other Information
JOB DUTIES

  • Direct responsibility over both species management, mineral, and regulatory programs for the department
  • Makes final recommendations to appointee for personnel actions, including hiring, promotions and disciplinary actions
  • Ensures that department policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Consults with department executive staff, other division administrative staff in wildlife management issues
  • Serves as primary wildlife issue technical advisor to the department secretary and assistant secretary
  • Works closely with other agencies, both federal and state, that deal with national and even international issues that may affect wildlife populations in the state


POSITION- SPECIFIC DETAILS:

Appointment Type: This position is open only to LDWF employees serving with permanent status. This position may be filled as a job appointment, probational appointment, promotional, or detail to special duty.

Location: This position will be domiciled in East Baton Rouge Parish.
