Job Title: Biologist - NGS Lab

Pay Rate $31/hr on 1099 all inclusive

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Microbiologist to support laboratory operations within an Enteric and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) Lab. This role involves performing a wide range of microbiological and molecular analyses on clinical specimens for the detection and identification of enteric pathogens. The ideal candidate will have hands-on laboratory experience, strong analytical skills, and familiarity with molecular biology techniques.

Key Responsibilities
Perform microbiological testing and analysis, including culture, biochemical testing, EIA, serotyping, PCR, and whole genome sequencing (WGS)
Isolate and identify enteric pathogens such as Salmonella, E. coli, Shigella, Vibrio, Listeria, and Campylobacter
Conduct nucleic acid extraction using manual and automated methods
Utilize molecular techniques such as PCR, sequencing, MALDI-TOF, and WGS
Follow established procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, and reporting
Analyze, interpret, and validate laboratory results
Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation in compliance with CLIA regulations
Perform quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) activities and document findings
Monitor laboratory inventory and order supplies as needed
Assist in preparing epidemiological and statistical reports
Participate in proficiency testing programs and maintain competency in all assigned areas
Identify issues affecting test performance and take corrective actions or escalate as needed
Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including public health entities

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, or a related scientific field (required)
Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience (highly preferred)
Experience in a molecular biology lab (preferred)
Strong knowledge of microbiology principles, laboratory techniques, and safety practices
Familiarity with CLIA regulations and high-complexity testing standards
Ability to operate complex laboratory equipment and scientific instrumentation
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills

Work Environment & Conditions
Work involves handling potentially hazardous biological specimens
Strict adherence to laboratory safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required
Laboratory conditions may include variable temperatures and physically demanding tasks requiring precision and focus
Additional Information
This role requires independent work with minimal supervision while maintaining high accuracy
Candidates must be able to work onsite in Indianapolis, IN
