Chemical Process Engineer
Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Chemical Process Engineer opportunity in Johnson City, TN.
Role Summary
We are seeking a skilled Chemical Process Engineer (Design) to support the development and optimization of chemical systems within an industrial manufacturing project for the nuclear industry. This role focuses on designing safe, efficient, and compliant chemical processes that integrate with precision manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have experience in regulated environments and a strong foundation in chemical engineering principles, process modeling, and system integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop chemical processes supporting complex industrial manufacturing and nuclear-grade component production
- Create and maintain process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and material balances
- Perform process simulations and modeling to optimize chemical systems and ensure safety and efficiency
- Select and specify chemical equipment, instrumentation, and control strategies
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of chemical processes
- Support hazard analyses, risk assessments, and safety reviews
- Ensure compliance with nuclear industry standards, including DOE, NRC, and NQA-1 requirements
- Prepare technical documentation for regulatory audits and internal reviews
- Provide engineering support during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of chemical systems
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field
- 10+ years of experience in chemical process design, preferably in the nuclear or defense sectors
- Proficiency in process simulation tools
- Strong understanding of chemical safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental standards
- Experience with high-purity chemical systems or precision manufacturing environments
- Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or Process Systems Engineering
- Experience supporting DOE or NRC-regulated projects
- Familiarity with complex systems or rotating equipment
- Certification in Six Sigma, Lean, or Process Safety Management (PSM)
Other Job Requirements:
- United States Citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security clearance. Active clearance is a plus.
