This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair laboratory instruments and equipment, including advanced systems such as NMR, FTIR, and UV-VIS.
  • Manage chemical inventory, ordering, and safe storage and disposal of materials.
  • Coordinate with Facilities & Services, IT, and laboratory staff to ensure reliable building and equipment operations.
  • Serve as department safety officer and building safety coordinator, providing safety training, conducting audits, and leading emergency preparedness efforts.
  • Supervise one full-time employee and support faculty and students in maintaining a safe, well-functioning lab environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Chemistry and Physics or closely related areas
  • Laboratory equipment, tools, maintenance and repair procedures
  • Safety principles, practices and procedures.



Skill & Ability to:

  • Ability to prioritize and schedule work to meet shifting deadlines.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely regarding the multiple aspects of the position to various populations, including faculty, staff, students, etc.
  • Maintain awareness of applicable University, state, and federal codes surrounding chemical safety and waste disposal.
