Purpose & Scope of The Position:
Responsible for continued development and improvement of analytical methods and assay procedures in the Assay Laboratory. The Chemist position is a hands-on role that combines laboratory experience and expertise with laboratory information and quality reports.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Strong knowledge of basic laboratory skills and practices.
- Develop and improve analytical methods and assay processes for Assay Laboratory analysis.
- Ability to train others in new and existing methods.
- Perform control charting and write monthly quality data reports for corporate team.
- Manage routine outside comparative samples and data.
- Write and update SOPs, manage laboratory SOP system.
- Prepare and prioritize standards used in Assay Laboratory.
- Ability to analyze problems, prioritize issues and develop timely and cost-effective solutions within a laboratory setting.
- Troubleshoot analytical equipment including AAs, diluters, pH meters, fluoride meters, titrators, LECOs, balances, and others as necessary.
- Review analytical data when needed.
- Experience interpreting results from wet chemistry and instrumental chemical analyses.
- Knowledge of computers, strong familiarity with Word, Excel, LIMS System and spreadsheets.
- Ability to work in a dynamic team environment with ever-changing conditions.
- Must be a self-starter and be able to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
- Follow safe work procedures and best practices.
- Willingness to perform other duties as necessary to ensure the success of KGHM.
Required Education, Work Experience & Training:
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or closely related chemical science.
- Minimum of three (3) years in a laboratory setting preferably an analytical metallurgical laboratory.
- A valid Driver's License.
Preferred Education, Work Experience & Training:
- Master's degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or closely related chemical science.
- Five (5) years in a laboratory setting, preferably an analytical metallurgical laboratory.
- QC operations experience desired.
Technical Skills:
- Special equipment and computer knowledge required.

Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, including drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to meet the required physical demands, including exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25-50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10-20 pounds of force constantly.
