By joining the DEPS, Inorganic Branch, Metals Section as a Chemist I in Franklin County, you will have theopportunity to work in helping DEPS meet programmatic monitoring and regulatory testing needs.
Holders of the Chemist I position will complete tasks such as:
- Performs routine preparation and analysis of various types of water, waste, soil, and tissue samples usingseveral different types of instrumentation.
- Converts raw data to final results using data reduction programs and reviews raw data for errors.
- Performs routine maintenance on instruments.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in chemistry, or in a natural, physical, forensic science or a related science field.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):Must be 18 years of age.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a laboratory setting. Incumbent may be exposed to hazardous materials, substances, or compounds when performing chemical analysis, which may require utilization of safety measures. Field work may be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
