Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC 1); Ehlers-Danlos Program

UVA Health's Center for Ehlers-Danlos and Hypermobility Syndromes is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) Level 1 (licensed or non-licensed). The CRC will support clinical research activities within the program by assisting Principal Investigators with National Institutes of Health (NIH) and industry-sponsored clinical trials and/or investigator-initiated studies. The CRC will work closely with the clinical team, including faculty, advanced practice providers, and staff, and will support patient-facing activities, compliance, and research administration.

The CRC 1 role is an entry point into a career in clinical research, with structured on-the-job training and a strong educational focus. The CRC 1 works under the direct supervision of a Principal Investigator and/or an experienced CRC and is assigned duties appropriate to the role.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Work with an experienced CRC/PI to learn core clinical research duties.
  • Learn to interpret and follow clinical trial protocols.
  • Apply protocol requirements to support patient safety.
  • Support study conduct: screen/enroll participants and obtain/document consent.
  • Coordinate study visits; track meds, adverse events, and participant payments.
  • Enter study data and maintain source documentation.
  • Collect, process, store, and ship specimens, as needed.
  • Maintain study documentation (schedules, diaries, logs, equipment, communications).
  • Prepare and submit basic IRB/regulatory documents (e.g., amendments, continuations, personnel changes).
  • Use research systems (IRB Pro, Protocol Builder, CRConnect, OnCore, e-regulatory platforms, Epic).
  • Build clinical research knowledge through training, mentorship, and self-study.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


For promotion, a CRC 1 must demonstrate a basic understanding of clinical research processes and the federal and local regulations governing clinical research.

Minimum Qualifications:

CRC 1, Non-Licensed

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree Required or equivalent combination of experience, education and or certifications.
  • Experience: None. Some experience in a healthcare setting and/or knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.


CRC 1, Licensed

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree Required or equivalent combination of experience, education and or certifications. Nursing Diploma may substitute for Degree for Licensed Registered Nurse.
  • Experience: None.
  • Licensure: Licensed to Practice in Clinical Profession such as (but not limited to): Registered Nurse, Athletic Training, Pharmacology, Medical Technology, Physical Therapy or Registered Respiratory Therapy


Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

This is a restricted position, which is dependent on funding and is contingent upon funding availability. This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
