Clinical Research Coordinator

Position Summary:

Effectively coordinates the conduct of low to medium complexity clinical research studies under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Director of Research & Care Transformation, and department leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees recruitment of patients by screening patient eligibility of potential study participants with physicians, leading to consent and enrollment as appropriate
  • Performs protocol mandated activities such as specimen collection and processing, vital signs, administers questionnaires, collects diaries, and documents patient response to interventional therapies
  • Interprets study protocols in order to schedule and track protocol-related testing and follow-up appointments
  • Documents and organizes protocol related activities consistent with protocol guidelines, patient safety best practices, institutional and departmental policies, Good Clinical Practice and Federal Regulations
  • Dispenses investigational drug and maintains and reports inventory
  • Reports adverse and serious adverse events to the Principal Investigator, documenting and reporting to the appropriate agencies within the required timelines
  • Acts as a liaison and resource with physicians, clinical staff, pharmacy, and study sponsors
  • Effectively utilizes a wide variety of different applications both within Kootenai Health and as dictated by protocols and sponsors
  • Coordinates studies of low to medium complexity, typically within a single specialty
  • Serves as backup or support for more advanced studies and in other specialties
  • Ensures the patient and guests have the best possible experience in all interactions
  • Performs research billing review process to ensure accurate and timely charges are submitted for coding and billing
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
  • Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned



Requirements and Minimum Qualifications (level hired is based on qualifications):

  • Clinical Research Coordinator I
  • Associates degree in healthcare, biology, research, project management, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a related healthcare position, such as a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant, required
  • Clinical research experience preferred
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets and database management required
  • Travel as required
  • Willing and able to complete additional training (IATA, EMR, etc.) as required
  • BLS Required. Current AHA Healthcare provider, American Red Cross, AHA Health Saver or KH BLS during General Orientation.



Clinical Research Coordinator II
• Associates degree in healthcare, biology, research, project management, or related field preferred
• Minimum 3 years' research coordinator work experience required
• Minimum 2 years' experience in a related healthcare position, such as a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant, required
• Clinical research certification preferred or willing to obtain
• Familiar with principles of protocol development, study design and IRB process required • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets and database management required
• Travel as required
• Willing and able to complete additional training (IATA, EMR, etc.) as required
• BLS required

Clinical Research Coordinator III
• Associates degree in healthcare, biology, research, project management, or related field OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience required
• Minimum 6 years' research coordinator work experience required
• Minimum 2 years' experience in a related healthcare position (such as a Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant) required
• ACRP or SOCRA certification preferred
• Familiar with principles of protocol development, study design and IRB process required • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets and database management required
• Travel as required
• Willing and able to complete additional training (IATA, EMR, etc.) as required
• BLS required

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
  • Typical equipment used in a clinical job
  • Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend
