CLINICAL RESEARCH COORDINATOR II

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Med - Cardiovascular Disease, is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator II. The main focus of this position is to work on multi-site research by the VA. Therefore, all candidates must pass a VA background check and drug screen.

General Responsibilities

  • To serve as coordinator for studies and provide support to other team members within the confines of the protocol as directed.
  • To support screening and participant eligibility determination, working with more senior team members to ensure compliance.
  • To conduct activities in accordance with the protocol, regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • To assist with the study life cycle from start-up to closure, i.e., collecting and recording data, recruiting and performing follow-up with participants, scheduling visits and assisting in coordination of lab and fieldwork.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Identifies, screens, and engages potential participants for vascular and cardiovascular studies.
  2. Conducts informed consent in compliance with regulations, explains study details clearly, and maintains communication with participants (including phone outreach) to support recruitment and retention.
  3. Coordinates study visits, follow-ups, and related activities across the study lifecycle.
  4. Tracks participant progress, sends reminders, and ensures adherence to protocols while maintaining strong communication with study subjects and clinical teams.
  5. Prepares and manages IRB submissions, including study initiation, modifications, amendments, and continuing reviews.
  6. Ensures compliance with federal, institutional, and GCP guidelines governing human subjects research.
  7. Performs accurate data entry and maintains both paper and electronic study records.
  8. Completes case report forms, manages REDCap databases, and ensures data integrity through organized, detailed documentation practices.
  9. Maintains compliance with all regulatory and protocol requirements, supports quality assurance activities, and ensures proper documentation.
  10. Collaborates effectively with investigators, clinical staff, and multi-site partners, including VA.
  11. Provides general operational support such as lab/specimen handling, study supplies management, and independent tasks.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Annual Salary Range : $50,050 - $81,330

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Prior experience in a clinical or laboratory setting while obtaining informed consent.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and be able to converse in a clear manner, and be able to explain the study to potential subjects.
  • Must be comfortable conversing with subjects over the phone.
  • Initiation, modification, amendments, and continuing review of IRB protocols.
  • Data entry and meticulous paper and electronic record and file keeping.
  • Possesses excellent organizational skills, especially with subject follow-up and reminders.
  • Familiar with rules and regulations governing human subjects research (federal and institutional).
  • REDCap - creation and/or use of this interface.
  • Must be motivated and able to work independently once trained.
  • Must be able to work well with others and be able to communicate effectively.
  • Identify and engage with potential participants for vascular and cardiovascular research studies and clinical trials.
