With its broad and multidisciplinary faculty expertise, the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI) is an international resource that supports basic and clinical research in environmental health sciences and exposure assessment and fosters associated programs in environmental health education and public policy.

Established in 1986, EOHSI's major objectives are to:
Advance understanding of the mechanisms by which environmental and occupational chemical exposures impact human health.
Identify and measure human environmental and occupational exposures to chemicals. Treat populations adversely affected by chemical exposures. Develop educational tools describing relative risks of chemical exposures. Contribute to public policies related to environmental and occupational chemical risks. Offer training programs for environmental health professionals.

The Institute serves as an unbiased source of expertise about environmental problems for communities, employers and governments in all areas of occupational and environmental health, toxicology and risk assessment. EOHSI members are active as advisors to international, national, state and local organizations on public health issues.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey has opening for a Clinical Research Coordinator III for the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute, located in Piscataway, NJ. The Clinical Research Coordinator III (CRCIII) position is to assist principal investigators with conducting human subjects clinical studies related to environmental, occupational, and public health. Recruit, screen, and schedule subjects. Administer surveys and questionnaires and keep accurate records, enter data, and perform basic statistical analysis. Collect and process biological specimens (blood, urine, sputum, saliva, and exhaled breath). Provide assistance with overall study coordination that is compliant with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Good Clinical Practice (CGP) guidelines, Office of Human Research Protection (OHRP), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), institutional guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) set forth by the department.

Duties include:

  • Recruits and consents study subjects both by telephone and in-person. Schedules study subjects. Maintains a record of subject participation. Occasional telephone coordination duties on weekends.
  • Conducts study procedures (height and weight measurement, blood pressure, spirometry, EKG, and specialized testing).
  • Collect and process biospecimens (blood, urine, exhaled breath condensate, oral rinse, sputum).
  • Willing to learn phlebotomy
  • Assist in sample management (recording the collection, storage, and retrieval of specimens).

  • Bachelor's Degree required; preferably in biological science, public health, or psychology.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Highly motivated and proactive with strong problem-solving, organizational, and administrative skills; detail oriented.
  • Clinical research experience
