Job Description
The Clinical Research Nurse - LPN supports the coordination and conduct of clinical trials under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and Director of Clinical Research. This role provides patient-centered care within the LPN scope of practice, assists with protocol implementation, data collection, documentation, and ensures compliance with regulatory and institutional standards. The CRN-LPN collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, monitors patient safety, and contributes to the training and mentorship of research staff, while developing skills in clinical research operations and supporting the efficient, compliant execution of studies.

Responsibilities
Clinical Care: 25%
• Provides patient care under the LPN scope, including vital signs, adverse event monitoring, EKGs, IP administration under supervision, and specimen collection.
• Assists with eligibility reviews, screening assessments, and consent discussions, escalating questions to supervising RN or PI as needed.
• Reinforces study protocols, plans of care, and treatment instructions with participants and their families.
• Maintains accurate study documentation, including data entry, query resolution, and protocol compliance in accordance with GCP.
• Collaborates with pharmacy, laboratory, and other departments for proper handling of IP, lab kits, specimens, and investigational devices.
• Supports patient safety, protocol integrity, and adherence to regulatory and institutional standards.
• Acts as a resource and mentor for less experienced research staff, promoting best practices and compliance.
• Assists with site visits and audits under supervision and demonstrates increasing autonomy in moderate-complexity clinical trials.
Quality and Compliance Oversight: 25%
• Ensures adherence to IRB-approved procedures and sponsor requirements within the LPN scope of practice.
• Completes and maintains accurate study documentation in electronic data capture (EDC) systems and source records as directed.
• Assists with internal audits, sponsor monitoring visits, and external inspections to support compliance and readiness.
• Participates in departmental quality improvement initiatives to enhance research operations and workflow efficiency.
• Maintains current certifications and training, including GCP, CITI, IATA, and protocol-specific competencies.
• Demonstrates proficiency with research-related systems and software or develops required competencies within six months of hire.
Communication and Collaboration: 25%
• Works independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary research and clinical care team.
• Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, building rapport and maintaining professional relationships with patients and their families.
• Serves as a liaison among sponsors, investigators, physicians, study monitors, and internal departments regarding participant care and protocol adherence.
• Actively participates in team meetings, patient conferences, investigator meetings, and sponsor calls as appropriate.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure participant-centered care and adherence to study protocols.
• Supports outreach and educational initiatives to promote study opportunities within FMOLHS and affiliated community clinics.
Professional Development and Mentorship: 25%
. • Maintains active LPN licensure and completes continuing education related to nursing, clinical research, and protocol-specific certifications.
• Seeks guidance from RNs, the PI, and other senior staff to enhance skills in clinical research practices, regulatory compliance, and patient care.
• Serves as a resource and mentor for less experienced research coordinators (CRC), and research assistants (CRA), promoting adherence to protocols and best practices.
• Shares knowledge and supports professional development within the research team, fostering skill-building and competency growth across staff.
Qualifications
Experience: 2 years of LPN clinical experience
Education: Graduate of accredited LPN Program
Licensure/Certification: Licensed Practical Nurse, Basic Life Support Certification
