Coordinate all activities and special handling of specimens and tissue presented for clinical trial analysis outside of the standard of care from receipt, through microtomy and staining to charge posting and billing.
Job Description
Essential Functions:
- Function as first point of reference for all trials that include an anatomic pathology component.
- Oversee special handling and receipt of specimens into the laboratory.
- Perform basic and advanced histology procedures (embedding, microtomy, staining)
- Perform basic and advanced histology special staining procedures both manual and automated
- Operate, use, care, maintain and troubleshoot specialized histology instrumentation
- Prepare specimens for shipment to referees.
- Assists in evaluating and training staff in new procedures related to trial specimens
- Assure procedures are billed to the trial account; tracks and corrects errors.
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the Hospital.
Educational/Training Requirements:
Associate of Science in Healthcare related fields (e.g Chemistry, Biology, Genomics, Health Science) with 5 years experience as a Histotechnician, OR Bachelor of Science in Healthcare related fields (e.g Chemistry, Biology, Genomics, Health Science) with 2 years of experience as a Histotechnologist. MS preferred. Experience in special stains.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registration:
HT (ASCP) or equivalent is required
