Do Epic Science

TAE is the world's first private fusion energy company, founded in 1998 to commercialize the cleanest, safest, most affordable, and sustainable form of carbon-free power. We are applying science and engineering to design transformational technologies. Whether it's harnessing fusion through the science of stars, making exponential leaps in power efficiency, or innovating medical care with a novel cancer treatment: We're turning the promise of science into reality.

We're looking for candidates who are passionate about realizing our mission: A future where all people have affordable access to reliable, abundant, and environmentally friendly fusion-generated electricity.

About the Role

  • TAE's privately funded C-2W experiment (aka Norm) is the largest steady-state high beta fusion experiment in the world, with a comprehensive diagnostic suite and a database of more than 70,000 shots. TAE is using experimental analysis and model validation to plan and build a first-of-a-kind high beta Fusion Pilot Plant (FPP). We are seeking researchers to contribute to this effort.
  • The Scientist will perform novel research in steady-state magnetically confined high-beta plasma physics, including analysis of experiment, model validation, and predictive simulation.
  • TAE has adopted the open source particle-in-cell code, WarpX, as a framework for integrated modeling in the FRC, and has developed three new field solvers for it: hybrid PIC, semi-implicit electrostatic, and implicit Darwin. It is expected that the researcher will adopt WarpX as their main tool.
  • Current focus areas include fast ion physics, stability and operational boundaries, and particle and energy transport. Global simulations will incorporate source terms including neutral beam injection, electrode biasing, and gas fueling.
  • Ideation is highly prized at TAE and the creation of new computational methods and proposals for experiment are strongly encouraged.
