Diagnostic Medical Physicist

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is expanding its Medical Physicist section, and we are seeking a full-time diagnostic medical physicist to join our dynamic and growing Department of Radiology faculty. In this role, you will work alongside a team of 5 medical physicists (2 diagnostic, 2 diagnostic/nuclear, & 1 MRI Scientist) to provide clinical support to Vanderbilt's inpatient and outpatient facilities within Nashville and the surrounding communities. This position will be eligible for a faculty appointment (Assistant/Associate/Professor) in the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM).

Position Highlights:

  • Provide clinical medical physics support to hospitals and clinics
  • Perform shielding designs for radiographic devices
  • Perform imaging equipment inspections and evaluations
  • Support and advise clinical staff on radiation safety related topics/regulations
  • Support and advise clinical staff on ABR, IAC, and TJC related accreditation requirements related to imaging devices
  • Provide didactic and clinical hands-on training to medical physics trainees
  • Provide imaging physics instruction to medical students, radiology residents, and fellows
  • Provide didactic training to Nuclear Medicine Technologists and Radiological Technologists



Qualifications

Position Requirements:

  • Hold a doctorate degree in medical physics, physics, engineering, or equivalent degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience as a diagnostic medical physicist and/or nuclear medical physicist
  • Board certified in Diagnostic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR)
  • Board certified in Nuclear Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine (ABSNM)
  • MQSA qualified medical physicist
  • Proficient in performing evaluations of radiography, fluoroscopy, mammography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasound equipment
  • Proficient in performing evaluations of nuclear medicine cameras and/or positron emission tomography units and associated non-imaging auxiliary equipment
  • Proficient in performing shielding designs
  • Physically able to lift and handle 30 lbs of equipment
  • Prior teaching experience a plus
  • Willing to serve as an MR Safety Expert (MRSE) for sites that have MRIs
  • Willing to travel, as some supported sites are located over 1-hour away from the Nashville campus
