Job Description

The Director of Engineering and EVS oversees the maintenance, repair, and construction of the hospital's facilities and infrastructure while also managing the cleaning and disinfection processes to ensure a safe and efficient environment of care. Also involves strategic planning, budget management, team leadership, and ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations from governing bodies like OSHA, EPA, and The Joint Commission. The individual directs both engineering operations and EVS staff, collaborating with various hospital departments to meet operational and sustainability goals.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of assigned department(s) staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Directs the operation of the Environmental Services and Engineering/Maintenance departments to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment, in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Operates the department in accordance with federal, state and local standards and policies.
  • Monitors the installation, maintenance, calibration and safety testing of all hospital equipment, and energy/utility usage.
  • Direct and/or performs repairs, rehabilitation, preventative and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Ensures maintenance and repair work is completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Ambulance fleet maintenance oversight.
  • Bio-med vendor management.
  • Satellite site maintenance oversight.
  • Environment of care management - including but not limited to Fire safety, Utilities management, Security, Waste management.
  • Life safety requirement oversight for hospital and all satellite sites. To include but not limited to TJC, IDPH, CMS, State, County, and City requirements/codes.



Requirements

Skills/Abilities:

  • Exhibits excellent interpersonal and communication skills and promotes a work environment that fosters positive energy, creativity, and teamwork among colleagues across all functional areas.
  • Must possess demonstrated leadership skills across facilities, engineering and safety teams.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills, and decision-making. Skill in developing long and short-range plans to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Thorough understanding of building systems, electrical, HVAC, energy management and waste disposal.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and codes related to health, safety and environmental management.
  • Ability to manage design, construction, and infrastructure projects effectively.


Education and Experience:

  • Five plus years of experience in building maintenance and engineering.
  • Progressive experience in environmental services.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Prior management experience preferred.


Physical Requirements:

Work is of medium demand.

  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
  • Standing, sitting, walking, bending and reaching required.
  • Risk of exposure to communicable diseases, chemicals, and hazardous waste.

Salary Description

$75,000 - $118,000/year (Depending on Experience)
