Duties

Help

  • Perform repairs, overhaul, troubleshoot and testing of medical equipment and any peripheral devices.
  • Ensure equipment is compliant with the most stringent standard, manufacturer's literature, or regulatory guidance.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance checks and services inspections of medical equipment.
  • Install general medical equipment, to include complex medical and peripheral devices.
  • Conduct testing to ensure operability, efficiency, and compliance with existing standards.
  • Ensure that hardware and software are functioning properly and that operating standards are met.
  • Review, evaluate, and fine tune components to achieve peak efficiency within the overall network.
  • Document services and research maintenance/accountability data in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 60 pounds may be required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.



Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes identifying medical equipment malfunctions and/or manufacturing defects to recommend solutions; coordinating with medical staff and/or medical equipment manufacturers to set up equipment and systems compliant with specifications; and testing medical equipment in current use to determine serviceability.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • Certifications preferred by management: Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET), Network+, Security+
  • This position is obligated. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights based on active military service, compensable injury or disability when fully recovered, return rights based on having served an overseas tour(s), and may also cover employees who have been on extended leave without pay under certain circumstances. During the obligation period, the position may be filled on a temporary or permanent basis. The selected employee is required to sign an agreement acknowledging that (s)he is aware of the obligation and accepts the fact that (s)he may be displaced under reduction in force procedures at a later time.
  • A temporary position is time limited and may be extended in one year increments to a maximum of three years and may be terminated at any time during the duration of the appointment.
  • Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
