Duties
Help
- Independently manages the installation, repair, and decommissioning of complex medical equipment within a Medical Treatment Facility.
- Applies electronic and pneumatic theories to diagnose unprecedented malfunctions in high-acuity medical systems.
- Performs lead-level maintenance and calibration on sophisticated Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Computed Tomography, and X-ray imaging units.
- Executes precision repair and performance testing on ventilators, defibrillators, and anesthesia systems.
- Configures and integrates medical device hardware and software with hospital networks and Digital Imaging Network - Picture Archiving and Communications Systems.
- Resolves complex connectivity and data integration issues for networked diagnostic and monitoring systems.
- Ensures all equipment maintenance meets The Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists, Safe Medical Devices Act, and Code of Federal Regulations regulatory safety standards.
- Utilizes specialized Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment to perform electrical safety testing and precision calibrations on medical technologies.
- Provides expert consultation to clinical staff on the safe operation and application of specialized medical devices.
- Conducts rigorous safety inspections and preventive maintenance on surgical lasers and sterilization equipment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience performing the full lifecycle management of medical equipment within Medical Treatment Facilities. This includes the installation, maintenance, and repair of complex systems such as radiology (Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Computed Tomography), physiological monitoring, and surgical lasers, proficiency in integrating medical hardware with hospital data networks (Digital Imaging Network - Picture Archiving and Communications System), utilizing specialized Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment for calibration, and ensuring strict adherence to The Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists, and Code of Federal Regulations regulatory standards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Medical Equipment Repair Certification is Highly Desired.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.
