Employee will be assigned to the Division of Land Restoration, Office of Special Reclamation South Region. Employee will perform professional engineering work at the administrative and supervisory level providing a wide variety of engineering services.
Duties include:
- Ensure all programmatic functions and duties comply with applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
- Direct the South Region and assign tasks to achieve program goals.
- Develop engineering designs and plans with professional (PE) certification for Special Reclamation land and water projects in the Southern Region or other assigned areas, including conducting pre-bid and pre-construction conferences.
- Supervise and train subordinate engineering staff in design preparation, documentation, and engineering processes.
- Provide supervision and direction for OSR inspectors and contractors during contract execution and monitor reclamation work performance.
- Represent DEP in matters related to the area of responsibility.
- Serve as an alternate to the Engineer Chief in representing DEP on the Special Reclamation Fund Advisory Council.
- Attend state and regional meetings on Acid Mine Drainage and land reclamation, such as the AMD Taskforce Symposium and OSMRE Training.
- Assist the Deputy Director or Director as needed in the assigned area.
- Maintain and update the database of sites and provide regular status reports on reclamation progress.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Employee expectations:
- Proficient in using AutoCAD drafting software for design drawing completion.
- Prepare cost estimates for reclamation projects, both for initial liability assessment and contractor bidding.
- Collaborate with the program manager on water treatment site operations, ensuring compliance with NPDES discharge permits.
- Must hold a valid driver's license.
- Requires travel within the Southern Region and other counties in the state.

Minimum Qualifications
Training: Current Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the West Virginia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
AND
Experience: Eight (8) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a licensed Professional Engineer in a responsible capacity in charge of engineering projects.
Note: The experience must have been acquired after the bachelor's degree but may have occurred before or after registration as a professional engineer.

Other Information
Preferences will be given to applicants who have experience or education in AMD Treatment, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Mining Engineering; Water and Wastewater Treatment.
