Description
This position is responsible for supporting the County's Erosion and Sediment Control Program (VESCP) in conjunction with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality regulations. Primary duties consist of performing routine site inspections of subdivisions and construction sites, and notifications of violations in order to ensure that projects are in compliance with the County's Erosion and Sediment Control Ordinance. Position also provides technical support to other Engineering department staff as required.
Examples of Duties
- Conducts Erosion and Sediment Control inspections in the field to ensure compliance with state and local regulations;
- Prepares inspection reports, and maintains verbal and written contact with Contractors applicants, developers, architects, engineers, surveyors, regarding E&S issues;
- Conducts pre-construction meetings with contractors and county staff.
- Collaborates with the Virginia Dept. of Environmental Quality (DEQ) tidewater office as needed based on project parameters.
- Maintains reference sources, records, documents, and other sources of information
- Prepares letters and other documentation for enforcement processing;
- Prepares a variety of documents to include correspondence and reports, and distributes and/or posts as needed.
- Assists staff engineers with technical support on projects as needed.
- Observes all approved safety and health policies and procedures pertaining to his/her work activities and performs all work tasks in a safe and healthy manner in accordance with County policy.
- Performs other assigned duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Requires the use of fingers, balancing, crouching, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
Required Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- Associate's degree or equivalent;
- Two (2) years of related work experience;
- Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Virginia DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector certification is required within one year of employment.
