Overview

Larimer County's Solid Waste Department is seeking a qualified Environmental Engineer to join it's team!

In this role you will provide strategic oversight of solid waste programs, hazardous materials management, and regulatory compliance. Oversees hazardous waste contracts, ensures compliance with applicable regulations, and leads the development of sustainable waste diversion infrastructure. Serves as a key advisor and liaison between internal stakeholders, external partners, and the community

The typical schedule for this position is 8am - 4:30pm, and overtime when needed.

Responsibilities

What you'll be doing:

  • Exercise direct supervision over professional and administrative staff.
  • Assign, direct, and supervise activities of assigned staff, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards; administers or makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, scheduling work hours, granting leave, appraising performance, disciplining, and submitting such records and reports as required by County policies and procedures.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for environmental engineering design, remediation, and regulatory determinations.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on environmental issues and operational needs.
  • Oversee and manage the Household Hazardous Waste Operations, including assisting with investigations and enforcement of illegal disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Evaluate and supervise County hazardous waste disposal contractors and disposal sites.
  • Prepare and request proposals or bids; participates in the selection process; may manage contract.

Qualifications

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in solid waste, landfill engineering, environmental compliance or a related discipline required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Environmental Engineering preferred.
