Environmental Engineer - FS ESP Program

CWI Works is recruiting for an Environmental Engineer within the National Forest Service (NFS) Agricultural Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program through a grant-administered program that provides support to the U.S. Forest Service. Successful candidates must meet the age requirement of 55 years or older, be authorized to work in the United States, and successfully complete a Federal Background investigation.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve the Regional Environmental Program as an Environmental Engineer. Primary functions include providing environmental review and technical guidance for contaminated mine site restoration projects, emergency spill response activities, environmental compliance audits, abandoned mine land inventory projects, and mentoring Forest Service Project Managers.

Duties include:

  • Review and comment on contractor prepared site reports and documents. Inspects environmental remediation projects including all required documentation for COR's approval. Complete and prepare documentation for environmental compliance audits throughout region. Complete and prepare documentation for abandoned mine inventory throughout region. Review corrective action plans submitted in response to findings in environmental compliance audit report.
  • Provide environmental and restoration guidance and mentoring to Forest Service project managers and field staff. Provide environmental compliance audit and abandoned mine inventory guidance and mentoring to Forest Service project managers and field staff.
  • Work with project managers from Forest Service to write Task Orders for environmental remediation projects. Work with project managers from Forest Service to prepare corrective action plans generated in response to environmental compliance. Work with project managers from Forest Service to validate inventory and characterization of abandoned mine lands.
  • Conduct site visits and field inspections.

Successful candidates must: Possess a Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or equivalent experience. Have a minimum of 20 years of relevant professional experience in environmental engineering or a related field. Demonstrate experience in abandoned mine land site characterization and restoration. Have experience with emergency hazardous materials spill response. Have experience conducting environmental compliance audits and abandoned mine land inventory activities. Possess knowledge of CERCLA implementation, historic mine operations, and applicable environmental laws, regulations, Forest Service policies, and hazardous materials management. Maintain a current 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification with annual refresher training. Be willing to travel for field inspections, environmental compliance audits, and abandoned mine land inventory activities, including overnight travel as required.

HOURS & COMPENSATION: Part-Time position working up to 20 hours per week @ $96.35.
