The Department of Environmental Quality is seeking a dedicated, forward-thinking Environmental Engineer to join our vital Engineering Section within the Division of Water Quality. In this critical role, you won't just be reviewing plans-you will be a key player in safeguarding our state's water resources. This position may be filled at any of the advertised levels listed below. Salary depends on the job level offered within the series.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare technical reports for and present projects to the Water Quality Board.
- Review engineering calculations, plans, and technical specifications for Wastewater Infrastructure projects.
- Participate as a team member or team leader on Special Projects and Division Initiatives.
- Communicate effectively both in writing and verbally to internal and external customers, stakeholders and the public.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- The ideal candidate has 0 to 15 years of engineering practice with increasing degrees of responsibility involving wastewater process technology analysis, design and specification.
- Bachelor of Science or Engineering in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering.
- At a minimum a candidate must hold an Engineer in training (EIT) certificate demonstrating passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
- Technical expertise in all aspects of wastewater treatment systems analysis, design, and permit delivery.
- Strong knowledge of physicochemical and biological wastewater treatment process fundamentals and resource recovery principles.
- Direct experience developing or implementing wastewater treatability analysis, developing process models, analyzing process alternatives, and working with designers to prepare engineering plans, and specifications for treatment works and sewerage systems.
- Strong project management skills and an ability to manage multiple projects
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science or Engineering with emphasis in wastewater treatment process design.
- Preference may also be given to those with a Utah Professional Engineering License or ability to obtain the license within 12 months.
- Professional Engineer/Register Engineer license in Civil, Sanitary, Chemical, Environmental or related disciplines.
Job SeriesThe selected candidate for this position may be brought in as an Environmental Engineer I with a salary range of $26.61 - $42.22 per hour, an Environmental Engineer II with a salary range of $31.33 - $49.69 per hour, or an Environmental Engineer III with a salary range of $34.91 - $55.36 per hour.
