POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist the EHS Manager in driving continuous improvement of the environmental and safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable Federal, State and Local regulations including OSHA, RCRA, CERCLA (Superfund), SARA, EPCRA (Community Right-to-Know Act), Clean Air and Water Acts. Responsible for updating, creating, and delivering engaging safety training programs. Assist EHS Manager with the implementation of companywide safety campaigns and routine communications. Responsible for ensuring all EHS records are maintained in accordance with applicable regulations. Collaborate with other engineering teams to identify and implement process improvements that will improve safety and sustainability.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Maintain current knowledge of Federal, State and Local regulations including OSHA, RCRA, CERCLA (Superfund), SARA, EPCRA, Clean Air and Water Acts.

Assist EHS Manager with the implementation of companywide safety campaigns and communications.

Create, update, and deliver engaging environmental, health, & safety training programs (live and online) that meet all regulatory requirements.

Responsible for maintenance and auditing of all regulatory records, including inspection and training records, to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

Assist with coordination and conducting of safety mentor meetings, audits, training, and activities.

Coordinate hazardous waste management activities at the site to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.

Assist with the implementation of safety and sustainability process improvement initiatives and corrective actions.

Perform regulatory research as needed.

Participate in accident and near miss reviews.

Assist in the preparation of required environmental reports and renewal applications, to include, City of Vero Beach Wastewater, CERCLA, Biennial, Form R, Tier II, EPCRA, and Air Operating Reports/Permits as needed.

Assist EHS Manager with maintenance and updating of the Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) plan and Emergency Action Plan as needed.

Coordinate sampling and assist in the preparation of quarterly reports to the EPA/FDEP to support the NPL site remediation.

Coordinate industrial hygiene sampling and prepare sampling reports (including hexavalent chromium, mold, dust, noise, etc.).

Conduct safety and environmental inspections and audits.

Prepare safety metric reports.

Coordinate with outside vendors to order and maintain adequate supplies.

Act as a first responder when the occupational health nurse is not available.

Assist with other environmental, health, and safety duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities. May be required to train and assist other team members.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor Degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or another related engineering discipline (chemical, mechanical, industrial) is required. Initial and recurrent annual training in Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response, and OSHA 30 Hour training required within 90 days of employment.

Previous experience with implementation of hazardous and solid waste regulations is preferred. Strong understanding of environmental compliance with air, hazardous waste, stormwater, wastewater, spill prevention is preferred. Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and experience in a manufacturing or industrial facility is desired. The ideal candidate will have obtained or be working towards professional engineer licensure or a Certified Safety Professional or Industrial Hygienist certification.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Intermediate/advanced computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word/Excel/Power Point.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent communication and organizational skills are required. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and on a cross-functional team. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely exposed to a manufacturing environment and elements such as odor, noise, dust, heat, cold, chemicals, and petroleum products. Occasional high heat and foul weather conditions may be present while performing job duties.
