Position Description :
Under general supervision, assesses community health status via collection, analysis and reporting of community health status outcome data for the general population and specific targeted groups; explains the etiology of diseases; develops line lists; predicts occurrence of communicable disease and creates plans to control the spread of those diseases; evaluates health impact of department programs; and performs related duties as assigned.
Examples of Duties
- Investigates reported cases, outbreaks, and epidemics of communicable and chronic diseases.
- Designs, develops, and administers line listings and survey instruments.
- Collects and compiles epidemiological data and develops and maintains epidemiological databases.
- Selects appropriate methods of statistical and quantitative analysis to identify demographic, geographic, cultural, and other variables linked to the incidence of communicable and chronic diseases; to identify sources of exposure and disease transmission; and to predict the probability of future occurrences of disease.
- Establishes and/or maintains surveillance systems to identify and monitor communicable and chronic disease (including injury) and health risk behavior trends among various population groups.

Education, Experience & Licenses
Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with 20 semester units in biological, social, physical or health sciences, public health, nursing, statistics, health planning or a closely related field and two (2) years of technical experience in public health epidemiology, complex data analysis or program evaluation activities.
OR
- A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Epidemiology, Bio-medial statistics, and one (1) year of demonstrably successful experience in the design, development and implementation of epidemiological research studies preferred.
License & Special Requirements:
- Requires a valid California driver's license.
Recruitment Information
The department is currently recruiting for one (1) position.
In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for an Epidemiologist, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
Testing Dates: October 10-14, 2025. Testing will be provided via email.
Tentative Interview Date(s):
1st - Monday, October 20, 2025 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.2nd - Thursday, October 30, 2025 from 3:30pm to 5:00pm.

*Rates listed in this flyer represent a full-time employee's accrual rate and health insurance premium rate. Part-time employees will have pro-rated accruals and health insurance premium rates based on the number of hours they work.

SALARY:
- Annual salary step increases based upon satisfactory performance and completion of one year of employment (Step A to E).
HEALTH:
- Approximately 80% of the premium for medical, dental, and vision plan is paid by the County (EPO Plan). The plan covers the employee and all eligible dependents at NO ADDITIONAL COST!
- Employee premiums are $234.54 per month as of January 1, 2025 for employee and all eligible dependents.
PAID LEAVES:
- Benefits also include an annual paid leave plan of
- 96 hours of vacation (increases upon continuous years of service)
- 96 hours of sick leave
- 14 paid holidays plus one 8 hour personal holiday
LIFE INSURANCE:
- Approximately 80% of the premium for a $30,000 life insurance plan for the employee is paid for by the County.
RETIREMENT:
- A retirement plan through CalPERS.
- CalPERS Formulas:
- Classic member = 2% @ 55
- New Member = 2% @ 62

- A Deferred Compensation retirement plan option with a County match of up to a maximum of $60 per month.
