SierTeK Ltd. is seeking two (2) Epidemiologists to support an opportunity at Wright Patterson AFB, OH.
Position Overview Section
The Epidemiologist supports the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) by providing advanced epidemiological analysis, public health surveillance, and data integration expertise to enhance operational readiness across the Air Force Medical Command (AFMEDCOM) and Defense Health Agency (DHA). This position supports the Public Health (PH), Occupational Epidemiology (OE), and Federated Epidemiology (FE) Command, Control, and Communications (C3) Team by integrating data from multiple surveillance and clinical systems, developing decision support tools, conducting epidemiologic analyses, and translating complex public health information into actionable intelligence for military leaders and healthcare professionals.
Essential Job Functions
- Integrate and harmonize public health data from multiple surveillance, clinical, and operational systems to support Multi-Domain Command and Control (MDC2) capabilities.
- Provide technical support, quality assurance, and administrative maintenance for public health surveillance data integrated from systems including ASIMS, DOEHRS, CarePoint, MHS GENESIS, AFDRSi, ESSENCE, AFSAS, DHASAS, HPWS, and other approved data sources.
- Develop and maintain data dictionaries, standardized data mappings, and knowledge management resources to support enterprise-wide public health surveillance.
- Design, develop, and maintain Decision Support Systems (DSS), dashboards, and Heads-Up Displays (HUDs) that transform complex epidemiological and operational data into actionable information for commanders and public health personnel.
- Develop analytical models that correlate public health indicators with operational readiness, including impacts on sortie generation, space launch operations, training pipelines, and mission risk.
- Document programming code, scripts, macros, and analytical processes to ensure reproducibility and compliance with USAFSAM programming standards.
- Support Knowledge Management Center of Excellence (KM CoE) initiatives by aligning surveillance products with operational mission requirements and evidence-based decision making.
- Assist in identifying, prioritizing, and supporting epidemiological research and surveillance initiatives that address AFMEDCOM and DHA priorities.
- Provide epidemiological consultation and bio surveillance support for outbreak investigations, public health surveillance, and operational health risk assessments.
- Collaborate with military personnel, public health professionals, information technology staff, and data owners to ensure the quality, integrity, accessibility, and timeliness of integrated surveillance data.
- Develop and deliver knowledge management and public health surveillance training for Public Health personnel.
- Prepare technical reports, briefings, scientific manuscripts, presentations, posters, and other communication products for military leadership and professional conferences.
- Assist users in developing routine and ad hoc surveillance reports, epidemiologic analyses, and special study methodologies.
- Support management of user access and permissions for integrated surveillance applications while maintaining data security and regulatory compliance.
- Assist with the development of research protocols and submission of studies to Institutional Review Boards (IRBs).
- Ensure compliance with Department of Defense, Air Force, HIPAA, STINFO, CITI, and applicable research and data governance requirements.
Minimum Position Requirements
- Master's degree or higher in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a closely related field approved by USAFSAM.
- Strong knowledge of epidemiology, biostatistics, public health surveillance, and epidemiologic study design.
- Experience utilizing public health surveillance systems and the ability to work with systems such as:
- Air Force Disease Reporting Surveillance Internet (AFDRSi)
- ESSENCE
- Air Force Mortality Registry
- Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System (DOEHRS)
- Executive Information Decision Support (EIDS M2)
- Standard Ambulatory Disease Registry (SADR)
- Standard Inpatient Disease Registry (SIDR)
- Aeromedical Services Information Management System (ASIMS)
- Experience utilizing electronic health records and laboratory information systems, including MHS GENESIS, AHLTA, and Health Level 7 (HL7) data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, SAS, and SAS Enterprise Guide.
- Working knowledge of R and/or Stata for statistical analysis.
- Experience utilizing epidemiologic data repositories and conducting advanced public health analyses.
- Demonstrated expertise in descriptive and inferential statistics, measures of association, statistical modeling, and interpretation of epidemiologic data.
- Experience developing research protocols and supporting Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions.
- Strong written, verbal, analytical, and technical communication skills.
- Current HIPAA training or the ability to complete HIPAA training within one month of employment.
- Current Scientific and Technical Information (STINFO) and Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) training, or the ability to complete required training within one month of employment.
- Ability to execute a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Department of Defense, Air Force Medical Service, or Defense Health Agency public health programs.
- Experience developing interactive dashboards, decision support systems, and data visualization products using modern business intelligence tools.
- Experience integrating multiple healthcare, surveillance, and operational data sources to support enterprise analytics.
- Familiarity with Knowledge Management (KM) principles and operational public health decision support.
- Experience supporting outbreak investigations, biosurveillance, occupational health surveillance, or operational epidemiology.
- Experience preparing scientific manuscripts, technical reports, conference presentations, and professional publications.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams consisting of epidemiologists, statisticians, clinicians, public health professionals, and information technology specialists.
