Job Overview:

The Tennessee Department of Health's Division of Family Health and Wellness is hiring an Epidemiologist 1 for the Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs section in Nashville, TN. This position will be responsible for professional scientific and epidemiological assessments of considerable difficulty for the Community Health Access and Navigation in Tennessee (CHANT Initiative). This is a contract position.

Job Location:

Hybrid position that requires travel to Nashville. Applicants must be current Tennessee residents or willing to relocate to Tennessee.

Education Requirements:

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in epidemiology, public health biostatistics, statistics or health information.

OR

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in health science, biomedical science or environmental science field with experience equivalent to two years' work experience in epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, health informatics health sciences, biomedical sciences or environmental sciences.

Key Responsibilities:

The Epidemiologist 1 will be responsible for developing and maintaining enhancements to the CHANT (Community Health Access and Navigation Team) data collection project. CHANT combines three care coordination programs (HUGS, CSS, and TennCare Outreach) into one overarching care coordination program. CHANT utilizes REDCap to build out a data collection module that is used to guide programmatic efforts and collect data for evaluation and program oversight. The Epidemiologist 1 must have extensive knowledge of REDCap and be able to quickly build out a data collection system that meets the programmatic requirements. The Epidemiologist 1 will also assist with the CHANT program integration a new data system.

The Epidemiologist 1 will:

  • Prepare routine reports of program participation and outcomes to internal and external partners
  • Implement SAS code changes and REDCap project changes as monitoring guidance evolves or processes change
  • Provide technical assistance to non-technical staff (e.g., REDCap system, SOP/task guidance, etc.)
  • Writes independent code and is able to test output for accuracy.
  • Pull, clean, and submit recurring CHANT reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly) in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with MCH Programs Team to effectively support MCH surveillance projects and create data outputs and visualizations for CHANT data.
  • Provide quick response of data inquiries and provide information of CHANT data to the regional teams, leadership, stakeholders and other public health partners
  • Ability to work remotely
  • Ability to come into the Nashville office monthly or a needed
  • Fulfill ad-hoc data and/or analysis requests
  • Translate programmatic requirements into the development of appropriate data collection

Other Requirements:

  • Proficient at managing electronic data and navigating complex databases and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experiences in customer service and working on teams
  • Proficient at statistical software programming, such as SAS
  • Experience in public health and health data such as vital records or health survey data (preferred)
  • Experience in deployment or implementation of application systems or related field (preferred)
  • Foundation in system design, analysis and evaluation

Supervisor Responsibilities:

  • This position does not supervise any staff.
