Job Summary

Job Summary
This position collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams to advance health equity and promote healthy, resilient communities for all in Benton County. This position is responsible for applying principles of emerging data science to serve as a primary technical resource for public health modernization, health and equity in all actions, and implementation of the County's core values; advancing Health Department programs and public health practice through collaboration with academic and community-based researchers; collaborating with internal and community partners to educate and facilitate the use of performance data to improve the public's health; engaging in practices to achieve data justice; and overseeing a team of population health epidemiology interns that supports county-wide data initiatives through data visualization, analytics, digital applications, and geo-spatial projects. This position also supports the Linn, Benton, and Lincoln region community health assessment and improvement planning.

This position may be called upon to assist with emergency response efforts (wildfire, extreme heat, flooding, communicable disease, etc.).

  • Annual salary range of:
    • $61,448 - $82,932 .
    • This position is eligible for up to two salary raises within your first year. Increases may be given at the end of the 6 month probationary period, depending on starting salary and at the 1 year anniversary, as long as your performance is in good standing! Increases are given until the maximum of the salary range is reached.
    • For most employees who take advantage of health benefits the salary only makes up 60% of their total compensation. The County invests in you and your family!

    Minimum Qualifications
    The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:

    • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in data science and analytics, epidemiology, public health or a health and/or social sciences field with an emphasis in epidemiology and/or biostatistics AND
    • 1 year of experience with a city, county, tribal, or state public health department or organization conducting epidemiological data management/analysis or public health/social research.

    OR

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in data science and analytics, epidemiology, public health or a health and/or social sciences field with an emphasis in epidemiology and/or biostatistics AND
    • 3 years of experience with a city, county, tribal, or state public health department or organization conducting epidemiological data management/analysis or public health/social research.

    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. Please note candidates must have at least 6 months of actual work experience to be considered as equivalent.

    Special Requirements

    • Valid driver's license. This position requires driving and may require use of a personal vehicle.

    Ideal Candidate

    • Advanced knowledge of statistical, analytical, and research concepts and methods.
    • Considerable knowledge of principles of public health and epidemiology (i.e., health status of populations, determinants of health and health disparities, factors contributing to health promotion and disease prevention)
    • Advanced skill in the use of personal computers, statistical, presentation, and report software.
    • Practice and competence in use of a range of analysis tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau or other data visualizations tools; SAS, SPPS, R, or other statistical packages; geographical information systems).
    • Knowledge of program evaluation methods.
    • Skill in preparing and presenting complex technical materials clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Skills that foster collaboration, strong partnerships, and team building.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state, local, tribal, and academic epidemiologists, population-health database experts, and community partners.
    • Work to address the needs of diverse and underrepresented communities.
    • Considerable skill in quantitative and qualitative data collection tool development and management.
    • Ability to work with community to determine what data is gathered, why it is gathered, who interprets it, and whether it serves the community.
    • Ability to seek out and value diverse perspectives in all phases of data processes.
    • Ability to collect and analyze data that accurately reflects the lived experiences, challenges, and aspirations of diverse populations.
