Exercise Physiologist
Summary
The Exercise Physiologist is responsible for coordinating and leading exercise therapy classes for Cardiac and Pulmonary patients, assisting in prevention level programs, managing the SET program, personal training, and assisting with Fitness Center daily operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain competency and knowledge of risk factors, or potential problems, in regards to the needs and concerns of individuals in various age groups
- Demonstrate competence in handling the young adult, adult, and geriatric age group
- Create exercise prescriptions for patients of all ages
- Develop and maintain departmental emergency protocols
- Conduct patient interviews/assessments to obtain necessary clinical data and consent forms
- Orient new patients to the Lifestyle Center and its various classes
- Utilize several different types of equipment for exercise fitness and body fat analysis to progress patient's fitness level
- Help schedule any patient testing needed, and follow up with physicians
- Coordinate and lead exercise classes and Cardiopulmonary Rehab classes for SET and general fitness members
- Maintain accurate patient files
- Act as a patient case manager for every assigned patient
- Assist in patient education lectures as needed within the department and community
- Maintain equipment cleanliness standards and conduct maintenance checks on all exercise equipment
- Assist in the supervision of fitness areas to ensure safety for all members and patients
- Remain constantly visible and available for advice and instruction in the exercise area
- Conduct orientations on aerobic and strength fitness equipment
- Lead group warm up and group fitness classes
- Provide input into the development of policies and procedures for the program
- Assist with various administrative duties and program responsibilities
- Maintain daily exercise logs and medical record summary of patients
- Maintain patient progress with appropriate documentation within the clinical record, and provide quarterly physician reports for patients as needed
- Assist with departmental outcomes and program recertification
- Assist with the training and supervising student interns
- Maintain frequent contact with the CVPT and Fitness Center staff
- Help with Fitness Center coverage as assigned by the Director
- Work to maintain a synergy between the Cardiopulmonary Rehab department and the Fitness Center
- Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis on Cardiopulmonary Rehab
Preferred Education: Master's Degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis on Cardiopulmonary Rehab
Experience: 1+ years in a supervisory role of adult fitness programs, plus proficiency in body fat analysis, blood pressures, EKG's, and fitness assessment
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Applicants are required to be ACSM certified at time of hire, in addition to being BLS and ACLS certified within 3 months of employment.
