Exercise Physiologist

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Primary objective of the position: To integrate the role of exercise clinician, educator and consultant to accomplish the goals of the Cardiac Rehabilitation. Responsibilities include assisting with initial and ongoing assessment of clients referred to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, and participating in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive rehabilitation program. Focus is on the development and monitoring of a safe and effective exercise program for selected clients. Duties are predominantly predictable.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  1. Bachelor's degree in the field of Exercise Physiology or related field required.


Experience:

  1. Must have had a minimum of 640 hours of experience, either by an internship in a Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program or practical clinical experience in the same setting.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Must have knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias and ischemic changes on EKG.
  2. Must have understanding of cardiovascular heart disease (CHD) and risk factor modification.


License/Certification/Registration:

  1. Meets the American Heart Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
  2. Meets the American Heart Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within three (3) months of hire date and renews ACLS every two years.
  3. Must become certified as an Exercise Physiologist within one year of hire.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives minimal supervision from the Manager Cardiology and Pulmonary Services. Acts independently in decision making within the guidelines of job description standards of care and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation protocol.
