HPTLC Chemist

Tentamus California is searching for an HPTLC Chemist to support advanced analytical testing of botanical materials, dietary supplements, and natural health products. This role requires strong expertise in high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) and complementary analytical techniques, with a focus on method development, validation, and regulatory compliance. Experience in botanical analysis and manufacturing environments is strongly preferred.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As the HPTLC Chemist, reporting to the Lab Manager, your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of botanical and related products using HPTLC and other analytical techniques
  • Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods in accordance with regulatory and internal standards
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation (HPTLC, HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, GC)
  • Conduct botanical identification using established methods and reference standard libraries
  • Analyze and interpret complex data sets, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance
  • Prepare technical reports, validation protocols, and documentation for regulatory and client requirements
  • Support testing of dietary supplements, natural health products, and, where applicable, pharmaceutical products
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with quality, production, and R&D teams
  • Ensure adherence to applicable regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, ICH, ISO 17025) and internal quality systems
  • Mentor junior staff, support team development, and contribute to project planning and execution

SCHEDULE & POSITION

This is a full-time, onsite role located at Tentamus California 133 Technology Dr #150, Irvine, CA 92618. The schedule is M-F 9AM - 5PM with the occasional weekends required.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will be authorized to work in the United States indefinitely and without restrictions or sponsorship, hold a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, or related life science and/or with experience in analytical laboratory testing will be considered; and who meets the following qualifications:

  • BS degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of hands-on analytical laboratory experience, preferably in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related industry.
  • Minimum 1 - 2 years of hands-on HPTLC experience highly preferred.
  • Experience with analytical method development and/or validation preferred
  • Expertise in a wide range of analytical techniques and instrumentation, with proficiency in method optimization and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standard requirements (e.g., FDA, ICH guidelines, ISO 17025) and experience with regulatory submissions.
  • Excellent data analysis skills, including proficiency in statistical analysis software
  • Leadership or mentorship experience is a plus.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, can convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Detail-oriented approach with a commitment to quality, safety, and compliance.
  • Instrument maintenance and troubleshooting experience

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in an analytical laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and analytical instrumentation. This role routinely uses standard lab equipment such as beakers, test tubes, flasks, thermometers, and computers, among other instruments. While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to hold or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stand; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
