Job Title: Instructor, Medical Scholarship

Department: Office of Academic Affairs /Curriculum

Facility: School of Osteopathic Medicine

Reports to: Medical Scholarship Director

SUMMARY:

The Medical Scholarship Instructor is responsible for supporting the Medical Scholarship Director in enhancing student outcomes in the longitudinal, medical scholarship curriculum. This four-year longitudinal curriculum is dedicated to the fundamentals of research in medicine, evidence-based practice, biostatistics, and quality improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches core Medical Scholarship content as qualified by candidate's background
  • Grades Medical Scholarship assignments including written and oral assignments
  • In collaboration with the Medical Scholarship Director, supports student research endeavors through IRB applications, statistical analyses, and publications/grants.
  • Assists in exam development
  • Serves as a facilitator for small group sessions
  • Supports faculty by coordinating webex lectures or in-person medical scholarship course lectures as directed
  • In collaboration with Medical Scholarship Director, creates and maintains course schedules
  • Supports curricular inventory through exam tagging in Examsoft and lecture tagging in One45
  • Undertakes special tasks and projects as assigned by the Medical Scholarship Director or Associate Dean for Curriculum.
  • Understands and adheres to the school's compliance standards as they appear in Rowan-Virtua SOM's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate must have a demonstrated track record of published scholarly works in indexed, peer-reviewed journals, as well as oral presentation skills, organizational skills and leadership skills. In addition, the candidate will have proficient knowledge of current issues and trends in healthcare, clinical, and community health research. The ability to work well with a varied constituency (students, faculty, chairs, staff) is critical. The candidate will have a demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain positive relationships and will boast a record of respect and openness towards people whose social and cultural background is different from one's own.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Doctorate degree (PhD/DO/MD) with 1 year of experience or master's degree in biological/biomedical sciences, medicine, public health, or a related field with 2 years of experience in research or higher education
  • Published, peer-reviewed articles in indexed journals
  • Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in at least one of
    • IRB applications
    • Writing Grant Applications
    • Statistical analyses
  • Willingness to create an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming environment within the department/organization.


PREFERRED:

  • Experience working in medical education/as part of a team.
  • Experience with diverse populations
  • Administrative/leadership experience
  • Proficiency with Canvas, Echo360, and One45
