Lab Assistant, Clinical Trials Unit

What You Will Do

  • Responsible for general laboratory maintenance to provide support for the clinical and/or anatomical diagnostic services.
  • Maintaining supplies, receiving stock, performing preventive maintenance, general cleaning, preparing solutions, labeling and filing documents, general processing duties including triaging, sample tracking, and billing.
  • Sorts, sets in order, and sustains organization of specimen/document drop-off and receipt via runners or pneumatic tube stations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Qualifications:
Education

  • High School Equivalent / GED (Required)

Work Experience

  • A general science background (Preferred) and
  • prior experience in a laboratory (Preferred)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Organized, accurate and thorough. (Required proficiency)
  • Familiarity with laboratory techniques and procedures (Preferred proficiency)
  • High level understanding of mechanical and electrical equipment including, but not limited to water filtration systems, copy/fax machines, laboratory equipment maintenance, and pneumatic tube systems operations (Required proficiency)
  • General computer skills including Word and Excel. (Required proficiency)
