POSITION SUMMARY:
The laboratory technician is responsible for general maintenance andorganization of the lab. Will also carry out experiments related to NIH grants.
The labtechnician should be organized, reliable, and able to work independently.
This is a grantfunded position.
DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General labmaintenance. Conduct lab chores and coordinate with work study student.Maintain lab inventories, order reagents, contact vendors and salesrepresentatives, prepare and maintain stock solutions, plates, and otherconsumables. Maintain equipment and coordinate repairs and vendor maintenance.
General laborganization. Maintain biohazard SOP, maintain chemical inventory and wasteremoval, organize lab meeting schedule, maintain lab website, attend all labmeetings, coordinate undergraduate student schedules and training, maintain C.elegans stocks and other reagents
Help to purchasenew equipment and computers for lab.
Positivelyrepresent the Maniates lab at departmental seminars, retreats, receptions, andother events.
Conductexperiments related to aims outlined in NIH grants, maintain an organizedlaboratory notebook, intellectually contribute to ongoing projects, helpstudents with maintaining strains while attending conferences and duringacademic year as needed, generating C. elegans strains and plasmids.
Supervisesstudent employees only.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Minimumqualifications:
Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, or related field from an accreditededucational institution with 1-2 years of laboratory experience with molecularand cell biological techniques.
Preferredqualifications:
Experience with C. elegans, gene cloning, microscopy, and PCR is preferred butnot required.
Degree in studyof Genetics, Cell Biology, Development
Alternatively, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combinationof experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilitiesrequired to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is notlimited to, the following:
Analytical,communication, initiative, technical skills, problem solving, collaboration andteamwork, supervision, adaptability.
Ability toestablish and maintain effective working relationships with the UniversityCommunity.
