About Granger Hospital
Beacon Granger Hospital is the first small acute care hospital in the region. Beacon Granger is specially designed to streamline emergency care and treatment for patients. The facility contains an 16-bed emergency department with sophisticated imaging and diagnostic equipment, as well as eight in patient beds. The inpatient medical unit is available for times when patients have illnesses that require overnight stays or observation care.
What You'll Do
As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will perform qualitative and quantitative clinical laboratory tests, ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with regulatory standards. Your skills will help provide timely diagnoses and exceptional care to our patients.
Medical Laboratory Scientist Job Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory tests, calculations, documentation, and result reporting per established criteria.
- Notify physicians of critical lab values immediately.
- Adhere to QA/QC procedures, proficiency testing, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Evaluate QA/QC data, identify and resolve testing issues, and escalate when appropriate.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Receive, collect, and process specimens, including blood draws and other body fluids.
- Prepare specimens for transport or shipping in compliance with regulations.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness, ensuring safe handling of body fluids and waste per OSHA standards.
- Provide instruction to new associates and students on laboratory procedures.
- Deliver technical information about tests and results to physicians and other authorized individuals.
- Fulfill duties of Testing Personnel, Technical Consultant, or General Supervisor when qualified under CLIA regulations.
- Participate in committees and complete other job-related assignments as needed.

Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or in a chemical, physical, or biological science, plus completion of a CAHEA-accredited program (or equivalent per CFR [click to reveal phone number]).
- Certification: Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP, HEW/HHS, or equivalent) within one year of graduation or hire.
- Experience: One year of related laboratory experience preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency in laboratory testing, quality control, instrumentation, LIS systems, and computer applications. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
Working Conditions
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous substances, and chemicals common to a hospital laboratory.
- Requires standing for long periods, walking short distances, lifting up to 35 pounds, and maintaining manual dexterity and visual acuity.
