Team member is responsible for pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens, to include order processing, specimen verification, centrifugation, aliquoting, etc. Team member validates and processes specimens delivered to the laboratory, facilitating timely and appropriate specimen preparation for testing. In some departments the team member may be responsible for performing phlebotomy. Team member must be able to make decisions and solve problems, recognizing when to involve leadership support. Team member is responsible for ensuring policies and procedures are followed. Team member will advise and assist in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software, as necessary.
What You'll Do
- Perform waived, moderate, and highly complex laboratory testing on blood and body fluid specimens while ensuring accuracy, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Monitor quality control, investigate testing discrepancies, and implement corrective actions to ensure reliable patient results.
- Process laboratory orders, maintain accurate documentation, and prepare timely test reports.
- Collaborate with physicians, providers, and healthcare team members to support high-quality patient care.
- Participate in inventory management, process improvement initiatives, and implementation of new laboratory procedures.
- Support the education and training of students and new team members while maintaining ongoing professional development.
- Adhere to all safety, compliance, and accreditation standards, maintaining continuous survey readiness.

What We're Looking For
- Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science or equivalent. Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Technology or MT program preferred.
- If graduated before 1987, two-year certification is recognized as MT.
- Experience: One year experience as laboratory scientist for specialty areas (BB, Flow, and Micro). (Clinical internships of 12 months duration meet this requirement), preferred.
- Licensure/Certification/Registration: Scientist Cert from ASCP or AMT (BB, C, H, MT/MLS, M, MB), required.
- Additional Skills Required:
- New graduates must obtain certification within 12-months of hire. Failure to do so will result in termination of employment.
- All individuals who are newly certified ASCP beginning January 1, 2004, must participate and maintain ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) through the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP). All individuals who are newly certified AMT beginning January 1, 2006, must participate and maintain AMT Certification Continuation Program (CCP).
- Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tests and communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and troubleshooting of instrumentation.
- Skill in performing a full range of laboratory tests.
- Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations.
- Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff and the public.
- Ability to read and understand information about instrumentation in laboratory field.
- Ability to follow written protocols.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
