Medical Lab Scientist/Medical Lab Technician
Primary Scheduled Hours: Days, 80 hours per pay period
Job Summary: Responsible for performing routine duties as directed by Laboratory Manager. Performs chemical, microscopic, serologic, hematologic, immunohematologic, parasitic, and bacteriologic tests to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ability to function in all areas of the clinical laboratory: blood bank, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology/immunology, urinalysis, and coagulation.
- Demonstrates knowledge of new testing methods, products, instrumentation; remains informed on all current technologies.
- Demonstrates knowledge of microbiological culture and staining procedures.
- Responsible for performing high-complexity testing.
- Correlates results with diagnosis; questions all incompatible results.
- Consults with appropriate personnel when test findings are unusual and/or difficulties are encountered in testing.
- Demonstrates the knowledge of proper identification and reporting of medical/health care errors. Protects the patient in the event of a medical/health care error and, as appropriate, assists in medical/health care error resolution.
- Notifies patient care unit and/or physician of critical lab values.
- Manages and operates laboratory equipment safely and correctly.
- Follows Standard Precautions and infection control procedures at all times.
- Performs quality control checks on equipment, performs calibrations and troubleshoots out-of-range results.
Education Background and Experience Requirements
Minimum Education:
Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology
Required Licensure / Certifications:
Certification/Licensure as a Medical Lab Scientist by ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent.

Successful candidates typically begin between the beginning and midpoint of the compensation range dependent on qualifications/experience and receive compensation in increments increases annually.
